Ragi Appos/ Finger Millet Paddus

Ragi Paddus/Paniyaram/Appos are small dumplings made using ragi/finger millet and urad dal.

We all know ragi is good for health. It is one of the most nutritious food and also easy to digest. It is rich in calcium and protein and also have good amount of iron and other minerals. It is low in fat most of which are unsaturated fats. I try to add ragi in our diet most often. 

Here is the yummy and healthy breakfast recipe :


Ragi Appos/ Finger Millet Paddus

a small dumpling made using whole ragi and urad dal which goes well with any coconut chutney

Ingredients:

  • Urad dal - 1/2 cup
  • Ragi - 1/2 cup
  • Dosa rice - 1 cup
  • Methi seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Cooked rice - 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Soak together urad dal, ragi, rice and methi seeds in water for 3-4 hours.
  2. Wash it properly and grind it adding water till you get a smooth batter.
  3. Once done, remove in a vessel and allow the batter to ferment overnight.
  4. Next day, grind the cooked rice with lil water to a smooth paste. Add it to the fermented batter.
  5. Add salt and mix. Add lil water to adjust the consistency of the batter. (Consistency of the batter must be neither flowy nor thick.)
  6. Now heat the appo pan and grease with oil. Put the batter in the appo moulds and fry on both sides till its golden brown. Remove from the pan.
  7. Serve hot with coconut chutney. :)
